Leadership Grants and Regional Conference Stipends

—Dear Friends and Colleagues,

So much has been happening with the Education Foundation these past months. The California State University, Fullerton leadership grant has added three more recipients to the roster of three from the fall semester. The new awardees are students at CSUF. They are: Tiffany Badie, Marissa Danielsen, and Corinna Rodriguez. Jan Eyring of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at CSUF has been busy working with the three fall semester awardees, Erika Montero, Erika Kercheval, and Rachel Savage. They have been busy experiencing the CATESOL world and adding to its influence, learning ways to help English learners best learn English and become productive citizens of our country. In return for these grants, which cover two years of CATESOL organization membership and registration fees for three CATESOL conferences, these students pledge to become more involved with CATESOL activities in the next three semesters.Education Foundation award winners Tiffany Badie, Clarissa Danielson, and Corinna Rodriguez

This CSUF and the University of California, Davis “Tippy Schwabe grant” have been helping the CATESOL Education Foundation develop future members and leaders in the field of English language teaching. And that is our mission!

The Education Foundation Board has been percolating a new program to help CATESOLers afford to attend regional conferences. The board has been developing a stipend program to help three worthy CATESOLers attend a regional conference. See the separate article in this issue of the CATESOL News. It is a $150 stipend offered to a current CATESOL member to offset the cost of attending and participating in a CATESOL regional conference. The conference does not have to be in the region of the CATESOL member; that is, someone in San Diego may apply for a stipend to attend the Northern Regional Conference. The criteria for applications and the deadlines for the stipends at the different regionals are on the CATESOL Education Foundation website: Foundation promo for Cars for Causes

As you can imagine, these programs do require funds to run. The Education Foundation hopes to continue all these programs in the future, but it does need to acquire the money to do so. Please consider giving a tax-deductible donation to the CATESOL Education Foundation. We are a 501-c-3 organization, and as such all donations are tax deductible. A letter as evidence for donations to the Foundation is always sent to donors for tax reasons. Please consider making a donation to the Foundation so that we can continue to carry on programs to help prepare teachers of our English learners in California and Nevada.

Yours in education,
Dan Fichtner, PhD
