—The Los Angeles Regional CATESOL conference will return to California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA) on April 25, 2015. With a plenary speaker, featured speakers, a variety of engaging concurrent sessions, publishers’ exhibits, and excellent opportunities for networking, the conference assures its participants a fulfilling day of professional development and growth.LA regional 2015 logo

The conference theme, “Innovate, Transform, and Inspire,” evokes the benefits of continuously developing and adapting our pedagogy to an ever-changing educational environment. At the LA Regional CATESOL conference, educators will collectively explore the role of new technologies and instructional methods, introducing a broad population of TESOL professionals to new approaches in language instruction. Through refining our craft as educators, we can inspire today’s language learners to meet the challenges of tomorrow.

Because this year’s theme is “Innovate, Transform, and Inspire,” the conference will integrate several new features. For example, we will offer a strand designed for novice professionals who are transitioning from graduate school into their teaching careers. This strand will provide novice TESOL professionals guidance on résumé building, interviewing skills, survival on the job, and more. The conference will also offer an Electronic Village featuring mobile technology that can be used in the language classroom. An additional highlight features several breakout sessions in which educators share engaging pedagogies on the academically enriching genre of storytelling.

The conference is being sponsored by CATESOL and hosted by the CSULA MA in TESOL Program, the TESOL Society, and the English Language Program. Conference attendees will have the opportunity to learn best practices, hear dynamic presenters, learn about new research, sample the newest materials from academic publishers, network with fellow English teachers, and meet prospective employers. There will be a host of new ideas to share with your colleagues and perhaps develop further at your institution.
