—San Gabriel Valley’s kickoff chapter event was a resounding success! Fifty people, fueled by hot coffee and muffins, presented lesson plans and ideas for teaching at K-12, IEPs, adult schools, community colleges, and universities. With about eight people presenting at a time in 30-minute increments, everyone was able to wander the room to hear ideas relevant to his or her interests and interact with other professionals and graduate students from our area.

According to the survey at the end, participants liked “the variety of easily adaptable lesson plans and the networking opportunities.” Another said that the event was “an excellent display of our profession.” All of the lesson plans are being shared digitally through Google Drive for the attendees so that they can pick the ones they would like to save and use. CATESOL SGV Chapter is off to a strong start! Our next plan is a “Coffee, Tea, and ____” Series for small-group sharing. We will begin with “Coffee, Tea, and Grammar” on May 9, so watch http://catesol.org/chapconf.html for more information!
