—Hello Secondary Level teachers and secondary students,

I am happy to announce that Secondary Level teachers and students can now apply for the CATESOL award presented at the annual conference, to be held this year November 12-15 in Anaheim. The theme for this year’s conference is “Technology Through the Ages.” Both awards require an essay in response to a writing prompt that corresponds to the theme of the conference. The deadline for applying is July 1.

I encourage you, students, or other teaching colleagues to apply for this award. National Geographic has agreed to sponsor this award, and we want to have participation from the Secondary Level.

Here is how you can apply:

  1. Go the the CATESOL.org site.
  2. Click on the word “Conferences.”
  3. Click on the word “Annual.”
  4. Click on the right-hand side where it says, “Conference Awards.”
  5. For secondary students, click on “Secondary Level Essay Writing Contest” Guidelines | Application.
  6. For secondary teachers, click on “Secondary Level Professional Development Scholarship” Guidelines | Application.

Good luck!

Laura Rodman is chair of the Secondary Level.
