—“Planting Seeds for Success” captures the theme of the 2016 Northern Regional CATESOL Conference, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 16. Our conference site at the Berkeley Adult School provides the ideal backdrop for our membership of passionate and devoted TESOL teachers, students, and professionals to come together for a day of learning, collaboration, and networking. The Conference Committee is working hard to create an engaging, informative, and fun event, and we can’t wait to share it with you!image of seeds for success logo for Northern Regional 2016

As we looked forward to April and the beginning of spring in sunny California, we were inspired by the theme for this year’s conference, “Planting Seeds for Success.” We invite presenters and participants to join us as we examine the ways in which planting seeds today can lead to strong and successful growth for our students and ourselves in the future. Presenters will use the conference theme as inspiration and consider questions such as:

  • As spring fever infects our students and their attention span wanes, what are your best ideas for re-seeding your teaching methodologies in a fertile conversation with other learning-lovers?
  • What blooms well in your environment? What are the new classroom strategies that worked for you this academic year?
  • What are some of the winners that you have used in past classes and “repotted’ this year, trying them once again?

Throughout the day, participants will have the opportunity to attend a variety of presentations, participate in rap sessions with CATESOL levels and interest groups, interact with publishers, and take advantage of networking opportunities and social events.

We would like to thank the Conference Committee and all those who are working hard to make the conference possible. For more information, visit our conference website at

We look forward to seeing you on April 16th in Berkeley!

Anthony Burik (with Ava Fruin Finger) is co-chair of the Northern Regional Conference.
