—As conference services adviser for CATESOL, I work with the regional and annual conference teams to build capacity and increase membership, as well as encouraging conference proposals to address the professional-development needs for California teachers.

This year I am working with Kristi Ward, K-12 Level co-chair, to build a K-12 strand for the 2017 CATESOL Annual Conference in Santa Clara. We are hoping to build capacity for K-12 teacher attendees and proposals/sessions delivered by K-12 teachers and other professionals designed to provide professional development for K-12 teachers of English learners.

Last year we piloted the K-12 strand successfully for one day, Saturday, at the conference in San Diego with our K-12 dedicated plenary (Drs. David and Yvonne Freeman) and breakout sessions. This year we planning to have the strand run for two days, with our Saturday dedicated plenary given by Dr. Francisco Jimenez, author of The Circuit.
